Etchea Café & Bakery brings French Basque-inspired flavors and features the great bread tradition of the Garacochea family whose well-known bakeries, including Pioneer, were “a must go to” and “best in LA” for almost a hundred years starting in the early 1900’s in Venice and Santa Monica. Etchea (spelled phonetically for Etxea and pronounced “e-chay-a”) means “home” in the Basque language. The Etchea team saw it fitting to create a local neighborhood gathering place where residents and downtown workers can feel at “home.” Open all day for breakfast, lunch, afternoon pastries and take-out, Etchea boasts the famous Garacochea crusty Sourdough Bread brought to Southern California from the small village of Les Aldudes in the Basque country. The menu features French born and culinary trained in the Basque country, features Basque flavors in each menu category, with an emphasis on fresh seasonal ingredients. A destination to enjoy something simple and delicious everyday, we welcome locals and visitors alike with friendly service, culture, experience, and family.
